Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority
The South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, known in Norwegian as Helse Sør-Øst RHF, is the largest of Norway’s four regional health authorities. It serves Southern and Eastern Norway, covering Akershus, Agder, Buskerud, Innlandet, Oslo, Telemark, Vestfold, and Østfold, and reaches about 57% of Norway’s population. The authority owns ten health trusts that run the hospitals, plus the Hospital Pharmacy Enterprise (which operates 17 pharmacies) and Sykehuspartner Trust, which manages IT systems. It reports to the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services and was created on 1 June 2007 from the merger of the Eastern and Southern Norway regional health authorities. The headquarters are in Hamar.
Leadership includes chair Svein I. Gjedrem and acting CEO Terje Rootwelt. In 2020, the authority reported revenue of NOK 88.5 billion, an operating loss of NOK 2.6 billion, and employed about 81,000 people.
