Mickey Conroy
Mickey Conroy (November 1, 1927 – September 20, 2005) was a California politician and Marine Corps veteran. He served in the State Assembly from 1991 to 1996, representing Orange County first in the 67th District and then the 71st District. A conservative Republican, he pushed for traditional values and fiscal responsibility and chaired the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee. He also led efforts to create a veterans cemetery in Riverside and supported veterans’ charities.
Conroy was born in Footedale, Pennsylvania. His military career included World War II service with the Merchant Marines, then the Navy, and finally the Marine Corps, where he retired as a major. In the mid-1990s he drew attention for backing a bill that would allow paddling of graffiti artists. In 1996, his former aide Robyn Boyd sued him for sexual harassment; a jury found emotional distress, and damages were awarded to Boyd, with a settlement paid by the state after appeal. He died in Orange, California, in 2005. He was married to Ann Landers in 1956 and had two children, Michael and Kathy, and grandchildren.
