South Davidson Middle and High School
South Davidson Middle and High School, commonly called South, is a public, combined middle and high school in Denton, North Carolina. It serves students from Denton and Silver Valley and is part of the Davidson County Schools system.
The school’s high school roots go back to Denton High School, which opened in 1929. In 1989, the old building became Denton Elementary School, and a newer, larger high school building opened one mile north and was renamed South Davidson High School. Silver Valley Elementary then became a feeder school for South. In 2009, a new wing was added, including a band room, administrative offices, and eight classrooms.
Beginning with the 2022–2023 school year, South Davidson Middle and High were merged into one school due to low enrollment.
Athletics at South Davidson are called the Wildcats. The school competes in the Central Carolina Conference (1A/2A).
In August 2019, a student spray-painted a racist message on the Spirit Rock, which led to a dispute between Lexington City Schools and Davidson County Schools and a football boycott.
