Sosatie
Sosatie is a traditional South African dish of meat cooked on skewers. It comes from the Cape Malay community, and the name blends “sate” (skewered meat) and “saus” (spicy sauce). Usually made with lamb or mutton, the meat is cut into cubes, marinated overnight in fried onions, chillies, garlic, curry leaves and tamarind juice, then threaded on skewers and grilled or pan-fried. The most common method is to cook sosaties outdoors on a braai (barbecue). Skewers often include onions, peppers and dried fruit like apricots or prunes, and many versions use beef or chicken as well.
