A Three-Pipe Problem
A Three-Pipe Problem is a 1975 mystery detective novel by British writer Julian Symons. It is a present-day pastiche of Sherlock Holmes. The title references a line from The Red-Headed League about solving a tricky problem that Holmes would take three pipes to finish. The story follows Sheridan Haynes, an overbearing actor who idolizes Holmes and is cast to play him in a television series. He becomes obsessed and tries to solve three murders that Scotland Yard has failed to crack. The novel was published in the United Kingdom by Collins Crime Club, runs 223 pages, and was followed by a sequel, The Kentish Manor Murders.
