Shumukh al-Islam
Shumukh al-Islam is a password-protected online forum that spreads propaganda for extremist groups, mainly ISIS and Al-Qaeda. It started in 2007, founded by Nabil Amdouni, and was used to recruit people and share illicit tutorials. It isn’t as popular now, with many users moving to apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. In 2011, a member using the name Umar al-Basrawi threatened David Letterman after he mocked a death; Letterman later joked about the threats on his show. The site hasn’t publicly claimed a parent organization, but it has expressed support for ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and related groups such as Al-Nusra Front.
