Shahida Qazi
Shahida Qazi (1944–28 October 2023) was a Pakistani journalist and educator. She became the first woman in Pakistan to be officially recognized as a correspondent. In 1963, she was the first and only woman to join the journalism program when the University of Karachi started its department. She began working for Dawn News in 1966 and became Pakistan’s first female reporter. Qazi was active in the Karachi Press Club and worked to support women journalists. She spent 18 years at Pakistan Television (PTV) and later led the mass communication departments at the University of Karachi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. Shahida Qazi died on 28 October 2023, aged 79.
