IFHY
IFHY is a song by Tyler, the Creator featuring Pharrell Williams, from the album Wolf. It was released on April 2, 2013 and written and produced by Tyler. The music video came out March 29, 2013. This was the first time Tyler and Pharrell worked together, and Pharrell’s involvement helped Tyler take his music more seriously.
In the song, Tyler voices his alter-ego Sam in a love-hate story after learning his girlfriend Salem has gone on a date with Wolf, another Tyler character. Wolf and the other characters appear across the Wolf album, which follows their adventures at a fictional Camp Flog Gnaw.
Critics described the track as having a jazzy, intense instrumental with a Neptunes-influenced sound, and Pharrell delivers a falsetto ending. The music video, directed by Tyler as Wolf Haley, features a dollhouse-like setting with Sam pursuing a doll-like love interest. The video is eerie and surreal, including scenes where Sam is burned and later run over by a car driven by Hodgy and Sam, before driving around the neighborhood. It’s been called creepy and a stylishly emo take on Barbie.
Although not released as a single, IFHY appeared on the US Heatseekers Songs chart, reaching No. 24 on April 27, 2013. It was certified platinum by the RIAA on July 25, 2023, for selling one million units in the United States.
