Sewadjkare

Sewadjkare was a pharaoh of Egypt’s 13th Dynasty during the early Second Intermediate Period. He ruled for a very short time, around 1781 BC according to some scholars, or about 1737 BC according to others. Different lists place his predecessor differently (Sehetepibre or Siharnedjheritef/Hotepibre) and his successor as Nedjemibre. His prenomen means “He whom the Ka or Ra causes to flourish,” and he is commonly called Sewadjkare I. There are no surviving contemporary inscriptions of him; our knowledge comes from the Turin King List, which is damaged and only partly preserves his reign length. Ryholt suggested it was as short as 11–14 days, indicating an ephemeral ruler. He should not be confused with Sewadjkare Hori II (late 13th Dynasty) or Sewadjkare III of the 14th Dynasty, who also appear in the Turin canon.
