USS Nautilus II (SP-559)

Nautilus II was a private motor pleasure boat built at City Island, New York, by Kyle & Purday. Launched in 1917, she joined the U.S. Navy during World War I. The Navy acquired her on August 17, 1917 and she was commissioned as USS Nautilus II (SP-559) on October 9, 1917. She patrolled and escorted ships around New York City for the rest of the war. She was decommissioned on February 14, 1919 and returned to her owner, E. E. Dickinson of Essex County, Connecticut. The Navy treats Nautilus II as a separate name from the Nautilus lineage.
