Seventh Son (film)
Seventh Son is a 2014 action fantasy film directed by Sergei Bodrov, loosely based on The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney. The cast includes Ben Barnes as Tom Ward, Jeff Bridges as the Spook, and Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, Djimon Hounsou, and Julianne Moore.
Plot in simple terms: Tom Ward is the seventh son of a seventh son and becomes an apprentice to Gregory, a legendary witch-hunter called the Spook. When the evil witch Malkin escapes and threatens the land during a coming blood moon, Tom must train fast and rely on Gregory and a young witch named Alice to stop her. After dangerous trials and battles, Tom discovers his special power, helps defeat Malkin, and earns the title of Falcon knight. His romance with Alice is complicated by his dangerous duties.
Production and release: The movie faced several release-date changes. Sam Claflin was originally cast as Tom but was replaced by Ben Barnes. Filming took place in Vancouver. The project involved multiple studios and a substantial investment from China Film Group, with Marco Beltrami composing the score after A. R. Rahman and Tuomas Kantelinen left. Seventh Son premiered in France on December 17, 2014, and opened in the United States on February 6, 2015, distributed by Universal Pictures.
