Ryan Harnden
Ryan Harnden (born June 28, 1986) is a Canadian curler from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He currently throws lead on Team Matt Dunstone, with his brother E. J. Harnden at second.
Harnden began curling with his father, Eric Harnden, and his brother during the 2007–08 season. The duo, along with Caleb Flaxey, won the Northern Ontario championship and earned a spot at the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier. He joined Brad Jacobs’ rink in 2008, starting as second and moving to lead in 2012 after changes in the lineup.
With Jacobs, Harnden enjoyed major success. The team won Northern Ontario’s first Brier title in 28 years in 2013 and earned a silver medal at the World Men’s Championship the same year. They then represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where they won the gold medal.
Over the years, the Jacobs rink collected several Grand Slam titles, including the 2015 Players’ Championship, the 2016 National, the 2017 Champions Cup, the 2018 Tour Challenge, the 2019 Tour Challenge, the 2019 National, the 2020 Canadian Open, and the 2025 Masters.
In 2022, Harnden began representing Manitoba and joined Team Matt Dunstone, playing lead while his brother E. J. Harnden plays second.
Personal life: Harnden studied at Sault College, the University of British Columbia, and Algoma University. He is married to Jasmine Gassi and has one child. Outside curling, he works as a real estate agent with Royal LePage Northern Advantage and has worked as a substitute teacher with the Algoma District School Board.
