Satpada
Satapada is a town in the Puri district of Odisha, India. It sits on the southern edge of Chilika Lake, about 50 kilometers from Puri. The name Satapada comes from the Odia words sata (seven) and pada (village), referring to a group of seven villages.
Satapada is famous for the Sea Mouth Island, where Chilika Lake meets the Bay of Bengal. It is also home to the Irrawaddy dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris). The town lies at the northeast corner of Chilika Lake and the Bay of Bengal, offering good chances to see the dolphins in their natural habitat. Visitors can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and boating.
Nearby is Rajahamsa Island at the lagoon’s mouth, about 18 kilometers from Satapada. The island is named after the mute swan (rajahamsa). Nalabana bird sanctuary nearby hosts migratory birds occasionally, and a boat trip to Nalabana takes about four hours.
Transport: National Highway 203A connects Satapada to Puri (about 49 kilometers away). Daily buses from Bhubaneswar and Puri, along with taxis, go to Satapada. OTDC and local tour operators also offer tours. The nearest railhead is Puri (about 50 kilometers away). The closest airport is Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar, around 120 kilometers away.
