Csaba Hegedűs (wrestler)
Csaba Hegedűs (born 6 September 1948 in Sárvár, Hungary) is a retired Hungarian Greco-Roman wrestler who competed in the middleweight division. He wrestled for Vasas Budapest and was 187 cm tall.
He became world champion in 1971 in Sofia in the 82 kg class and was named Hungarian Sportsman of the Year. He won a gold medal for Hungary in the 1972 Munich Olympics in the 82 kg Greco-Roman event and also competed at the 1976 Olympics.
In 1973 he survived a serious traffic accident. He recovered and by 1975 finished fourth at the world championships. He won European titles in 1976 (Leningrad, 82 kg) and 1977 (Bursa, 90 kg).
After ending his competitive career, he coached the Hungarian wrestling team from 1979 to 1989. He later worked as a sports administrator with roles in the national wrestling federation, the Hungarian Olympic Committee, and FILA. He served as President of the Hungarian Wrestling Association from 1992 to 2015 and was succeeded by Szilárd Németh.
