Sami (name)
Sami, also spelled Samy or Sammy, is a name used as both a given name and a surname. It has different origins and is common in the Arab world and in Scandinavia.
In Arabic, Sami (سامي) is a male name meaning “elevated” or “sublime,” from the verb samā, which means to transcend. The feminine form Samiya (Samia) comes from the same root.
