Mary Webb (artist)

Mary Webb, born in 1939 in London, is a British abstract painter known for her bold, color-rich work. She studied Fine Art at Newcastle University from 1958 to 1963, under artists Richard Hamilton and Victor Pasmore. She later studied at Chelsea College of Arts in London and taught painting at the Norwich School of Art and the Harrogate School of Art. Webb cites Sonia Delaunay as an influence.

Style and work
Webb’s paintings and prints are typically square in format, made up of vivid squares and rectangles arranged in bright, energetic compositions.

Collections
Her work is held in several public collections, including the Arts Council Collection, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (University of East Anglia), Kettle’s Yard, and the Sonia Delaunay Collection in Paris.
