Living Your Life
Living Your Life is the third studio album by British singer Belouis Some. It was released in October 1993, but only in Germany. It was Some’s first album in six years and remains his last release to date. After touring with the band The Big Broadcast, he returned to record this album in London at Marcus Recording Studios from February to April 1993. It was mainly produced by Geoff Dugmore and Nigel Butler, with two tracks produced by Robin Goodfellow. Musicians on the album included Karl Hyde, Steve Barnacle, Peter Oxendale and J.J. Belle.
The lead single, "Something She Said," came out in August 1993 in the UK and Europe but did not reach the UK top 100. A second single, "Sometimes," also failed commercially. The UK release had been planned for 13 September 1993 but was shelved, and the album was released only in Germany in October 1993. Some blamed Arista Records and BMG for not promoting it enough. In a 2024 interview, Some said making the album was hard, it got lost when released, but he likes it and believes it has great songs.
After this album, Belouis Some did not release new material, except for the 1995 UK-only single "Let Me Love You for Tonight." Critics had mixed views: Music & Media praised it as possibly his strongest work with strong melodies and energetic arrangements; Billboard noted the single "Sometimes" as a dark, jangly track and praised songs like "Birthday in Paradise" and "New World"; AllMusic described the album as blending contemporary pop with harder-edged techno.
