Salvador Bécquer Puig
Salvador Bécquer Puig (1939–2009) was a Uruguayan poet and journalist. He was born in Montevideo on January 9, 1939. He worked as a literary critic for the weekly Marcha (1967–1968). He reported for Reuters (1976–1982) and for ANSA (1982–2004). He also hosted news programs on the radio station CX 30. In 1987 he took part in the Congress of Iberoamerican Writers in Israel. As a poet, he won several awards: the Bartolomé Hidalgo Award in 1993 for Si tuviera que apostar; the Juan José Morosoli Award in 2000; and the Ministry of Education and Culture’s poetry prize in 2001 for Falso Testimonio. He died on March 3, 2009, at age 70.
