Merritt B. Gerstad
Merritt Brindley Edward Gerstad (July 5, 1900 – March 1, 1974) was an American cinematographer who worked on silent and early sound films. Born in Chicago, he started his career at Universal and later shot for MGM, including Tod Browning's London After Midnight (1927, now lost) and Freaks (1932). He also photographed A Night at the Opera (1935) for Sam Wood. In the 1940s he did work for Warner Bros., including Watch on the Rhine (1943) with Bette Davis, Conflict (1945) with Humphrey Bogart, and the Gershwin biopic Rhapsody in Blue (1945), his last credited film. He died in Orange County, California, and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
