Salute (Gordon Lightfoot album)
Salute is the fifteenth studio album by Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot, released in July 1983 by Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded from December 1982 to February 1983 at Eastern Sound in Toronto. The album runs 36 minutes and 16 seconds and was produced by Dean Parks and Gordon Lightfoot.
It follows Shadows (1982) and precedes East of Midnight (1986). The singles from Salute are: "Salute (A Lot More Livin' to Do)" (August 1983), "Without You" (November 1983), and "Whispers of the North" (1983).
Salute barely charted, reaching only #175, making it one of Lightfoot's least-known albums, and songs from it were rarely performed live. The music marks a shift from his acoustic folk/country style toward a sleeker adult contemporary sound, a move that started with Shadows. He still keeps some folk influence, as heard in "Whispers of the North," "Knotty Pine," and "Tattoo." The album is generally more upbeat and uses more electric guitar and synthesizers. All songs are written by Gordon Lightfoot.
