Mercia Geises, born around 1982 in Namibia, is a lawyer, banker, and business executive. She is the managing director and chief executive officer of Standard Bank Namibia Limited, a commercial bank in Namibia that is part of the Standard Bank Group from South Africa. She became CEO on 1 May 2021, taking over from Vetumbuavi Mungunda, who left the bank on 30 April 2021.

Education: Geises holds a B Juris from the University of Namibia; an LLB and an LLM in Mercantile Law from the University of the Free State in South Africa; and an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch.

Career: She started as an associate at Weder, Kruger and Hartmann. She then spent 12 years at Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia (Pty) Limited, where she rose to CEO. In 2016, she joined Standard Bank of Namibia and led Personal and Business Banking for five years, at both Standard Bank Namibia Holdings Limited and Standard Bank Namibia Limited, before becoming CEO on 1 May 2021.

As of May 2021, her appointment reflects the strong presence of women in Namibia’s banking sector, with several top banks led by female executives.
