Sacred Heart Grammar School
Sacred Heart Grammar School is a Catholic girls’ grammar school in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is located at 10 Ashgrove Avenue and serves girls aged 11 to 18. The school has about 855 students and around 51 full‑time teachers. The motto is Deus Meus et Omnia (My God and my all). The principal is Shane Comer, and the school is part of the Education Authority (Southern).
The school was founded in 1930 by the Sisters of St. Clare and began near the Poor Clare Convent on Castle Street. As numbers grew, it moved to a new 17‑acre campus at Ashgrove in 1985, with a later Science and Technology Block opened in 1997.
Sacred Heart offers a full range of subjects up to A‑levels. In 2017/18, 84.2% of its A‑level students achieved at least three A*–C grades. In 2018, it was ranked 19th in Northern Ireland for GCSE performance, with 98.4% of entrants achieving five or more GCSEs at A*–C, including English and Maths. The school provides many educational visits and field trips, and has a long tradition of musical theatre dating back to 1956, with numerous productions.
