HMS Thornborough
HMS Thornborough (K574) was a Captain-class frigate of the Royal Navy during World War II. She originally began life as a United States Navy destroyer escort, DE-565, a Buckley-class ship built in Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard, Hingham, Massachusetts. She was laid down on 22 September 1943, launched on 13 November 1943, and completed on 31 December 1943. On that day she was transferred to the United Kingdom and commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Thornborough (K574). She was named after Admiral Sir Edward Thornbrough, a British naval officer who fought at Quiberon Bay in 1795. Thornborough served on patrol and convoy escort duties for the remainder of the war. She was decommissioned in 1945 and returned to the United States on 27 January 1947. The US sold her on 24 April 1947 to a Greek shipyard for scrapping.
