SM UB-48 was a German Type UB III submarine (U-boat) used in World War I. Ordered in May 1916 and built by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, it was launched in January 1917 and commissioned in June 1917 under Commander Wolfgang Steinbauer. The submarine displaced about 516 tons surfaced and 651 tons submerged, was 55.3 meters long, and had a beam of 5.8 meters and a draft of 3.68 meters. It could travel at 13.6 knots on the surface and 8 knots underwater, with a range of about 9,040 nautical miles at 6 knots on the surface. It carried five torpedo tubes (four bow, one stern) with ten torpedoes and an 8.8 cm deck gun. The crew consisted of 3 officers and 31 men.

UB-48 served with the Mittelmeer Flotilla and later the II Mediterranean U-boat Flotilla based at Cattaro, carrying out nine patrols. It sank around 35 ships, mainly in the Mediterranean.

After Austria-Hungary surrendered, UB-48 was scuttled at Pola on 28 October 1918.
