SEPTA Suburban Division bus routes
SEPTA Suburban Division runs most local bus routes in suburban Philadelphia, serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, with some routes that reach into the city. The Division is made up of three districts: Victory (the former Red Arrow Division), Frontier, and Contract Operations. The Victory District operates from the 69th Street Transportation Center in Upper Darby, Delaware County, and also oversees the Norristown High Speed Line and the Media–Sharon Hill Line. These lines were once operated by the Red Arrow Lines.
The Red Arrow Lines were the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company, taken over by SEPTA in 1970. In 2011, the 69th Street Terminal was renamed the 69th Street Transportation Center, and in 2025 it was renamed again to 69th Street Transit Center as part of a system-wide simplification. Express bus service was eliminated in 2022.
The Frontier District is based in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County. It grew from older regional lines, including the Schuylkill Valley Line and Trenton Philadelphia Coach Lines. It includes routes that came from those predecessors, such as Route 96–99 and Routes 127–129, plus Routes 150–153. Some routes are run under contract with other operators, like Trenton Philadelphia Coach Lines for Routes 310, 311, and 316, and the Cornwall Heights Shuttle (Route 312) operated by Krapf Transit.
In Chester County, transit history includes long-running private operators that SEPTA later absorbed. Reeder’s Inc. ran West Chester routes 120–122 starting in 1977; Route 122 became SEPTA Route 91 in 1982 and Route 121 became SEPTA Route 92 in 1982. Route A was replaced by SEPTA Route 135 in 2021. Krapf Transit also operates several Chester County routes and continues to run some services under contract, including the Coatesville area routes.
Route 204 began in 1999 from Paoli to the Eagleview area, with weekend service and later a Phoenixville extension that ended in 2010; it was rerouted to Chesterbrook and eventually eliminated in 2019. Route 205 started in 2007 from Paoli to Main Line Industrial Park, was extended to Phoenixville in 2010, and was eliminated in 2019. In 2025, SEPTA took over Route 204 from Krapf.
SEPTA also operates PHLASH, a seasonal tourist shuttle run with the Independence Visitor Center and Krapf Transit. PHLASH serves tourists and locals, with a spring to fall schedule and winter suspension.
