Ryedale (UK Parliament constituency)
Ryedale was a UK Parliament constituency in North Yorkshire. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system. It existed from 1983 to 2010.
The seat was traditionally Conservative, though it was briefly won by Elizabeth Shields of the Liberal Party in a 1986 by-election after the death of MP John Spence.
Ryedale covered the district of Ryedale (including Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, Helmsley and Pickering) and parts of the City of York’s north-eastern suburbs (such as Huntington, Strensall, Osbaldwick and Heworth Without). In 2010, following a Boundary Commission review, the constituency was abolished and its areas largely joined the new Thirsk and Malton seat, with some areas going to York Outer.
