Moulton Bicycle Company is a private English bike maker based in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire. It was founded in 1962 by Alex Moulton, who had designed suspension systems for the Mini car. Moultons are famous for their small wheels, front and rear suspension, and a distinctive frame that's often called the F-frame or Lazy F because it has no top tube. They are not true folding bikes, though some models can be taken apart for easier transport.

The goal was to make bikes that were fast, comfortable, and easy to ride and store. Small wheels with high-pressure tires reduced rolling resistance, while front and rear suspension provided a smoother ride. The 1962 release, marketed as the “bicycle of the future,” helped Moultons gain global attention and they became popular in the Swinging Sixties.

Early models made in Bradford-on-Avon and at a BMC factory in Kirkby included Continental, Automatic M0, Standard M1, Deluxe M2, Safari M3, Speed M4, Stowaway M5, Speedsix M6, and the high-spec S range. After Raleigh bought Moulton in 1967, production continued with models like Major, Major Deluxe, and later the Mark III, before stopping in 1974. Some early Moultons are now collectors’ items.

In the early 1980s, Alex Moulton bought back the rights and launched new designs, including the AM series with a space frame for high rigidity and light weight. In 1998, the New Series with a Flexitor front suspension and a unified rear triangle followed, including high-performance Pylon models. A cheaper APB (All-Purpose Bicycle) was produced under license by Pashley Cycles from 1992 to 2005.

In 2008, the Moulton Bicycle Company was formed through a collaboration between Moulton and Pashley Cycles. Production of the TSR models continued with Pashley, and in 2022 Moulton acquired the original Bradford-on-Avon works to bring all production there. Since 2023, the TSR has been made in Bradford-on-Avon. Bridgestone also made a Moulton in Japan, sold in the UK with assembly in England.

As of 2025, Moulton lists several models with prices ranging from around £2,100 for TSR versions to about £21,950 for the flagship New Series Double Pylon.
