Rudolf Kobert
Rudolf Kobert (3 January 1854 – 27 December 1918) was a German pharmacologist and toxicologist. He was born in Bitterfeld and studied at Halle. He worked as an assistant to physiologist Friedrich Goltz and pharmacologist Oswald Schmiedeberg in Strasbourg. In 1887 he became a professor at the Imperial University of Dorpat (now Tartu), teaching pharmacology, dietetics and the history of medicine. One of his students was Peter Hermann Stillmark, who founded lectinology with his ricin thesis. Because of the Russification of the university, Kobert left Dorpat in 1896 and became director of the Brehmer sanatorium in Gorbersdorf. In 1899 he was appointed to the chair of pharmacology, pharmacognosy, chemistry and the history of medicine at the University of Rostock, a position he held until his death. Kobert researched ergot alkaloids, scopolamine, saponins and various plant and animal poisons. He wrote popular textbooks and is especially known for Historischen Studien aus dem Pharmakologischen Institut der Universität Dorpat (five volumes, 1889–1896).
