Roaring Gap is a small unincorporated community in Alleghany County, North Carolina, near the Wilkes County line. It started as a summer resort in 1890, founded by Alexander Chatham, and is named for the wind rushing through the nearby mountains. The area is known for three private golf clubs—High Meadows Country Club, Roaring Gap Club, and Olde Beau Golf Club—making it a popular summer retreat. Inside the Roaring Gap Club lies Lake Louise, a 54-acre reservoir. YMCA Camp Cheerio is also located here. The Rock House and William T. Vogler Cottage are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Antioch United Methodist Church, a historic country chapel across from High Meadows, has a cemetery with graves dating from the 19th century to the present.
