Lobkovice is a village in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is part of the town of Neratovice in Mělník District and lies about 16 kilometers north of Prague. The population is around 800 people. The village is first mentioned in 1341 and over the centuries it passed through several owners, becoming associated with the Lobkowicz family. The Lobkowicz lineage rebuilt the local fortress into a small Gothic castle, which remains the main historical monument. In the 19th century the estate changed hands, and in 1948 it was nationalised by the socialist government. After the Velvet Revolution, the castle was returned to Prince Ferdinand Joseph Lobkowicz, the grandson of the pre-1948 owner. Today the Lobkowicz family owns the castle, which is closed to the public until reconstruction is finished.
