Riyasat Mae Riyasat
Riyasat Mae Riyasat is a Pakistani Urdu-language TV film that aired on August 14, 2016 on TV One. Directed by Asad Malik and written by Mashood Qadri, the 79-minute drama stars Munawar Saeed, Saleem Mairaj, Arif Bahalim, Rashid Farooqui, Hiba Ali, and Adnan Shah (Tipu). The production is by Kalakar Films with producers Mashood Qadri, Mamoona Sheikh, Shagufta Naqvi, Talha Siddiqui, and Mehreen Quadri. Music is by Wajid Saeed and cinematography by Farhan Alam.
The film explores a fragile legal and judicial system where “justice delayed is justice denied,” against a backdrop of political tensions, gang influence, and police pressure. It presents a city under a quiet cold war between the state, politicians, and common people, showing a “state within a state.”
Plot in simple terms:
Five men share a low-income apartment and call their elder figure Abba their godfather. They are joined by a frightened young woman, Alina (Hiba Ali), who is of Pakistani descent but raised in Canada. As violence erupts outside, the five men—each with a distinct role (a lawyer, a journalist, a student activist, a businessman/cricketer, and Abba’s circle)—try to impress Alina with wit and humor while debating politics and the world around them. Abba acts as a calm moderator and hints at hidden histories.
The situation grows tense when the police surround the building. It’s revealed that Alina is actually a police spy trying to gather information on the fugitives. Abba had suspected this, but he chooses to follow democratic principles and protect the moment, allowing the men to surrender rather than fight back to defend Alina. In the end, Alina learns that these five intelligent men are victims of political rifts who opposed bigotry and the establishment, though they have broken the law. The film’s messages focus on justice, power dynamics, and how the law can protect oligarchy—featuring a critique of feudalism and elite control.
