Atomic Liquors
Atomic Liquors is a historic bar in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. It opened on April 17, 1954, at 917 East Fremont Street, on the site of the former Virginia’s Café.
History:
- Virginia Barrett and her family opened Virginia’s Café on this site in 1945.
- In 1954, Virginia’s Café was replaced with Atomic Liquors, which was initially licensed to the Barretts.
- The Sobchicks operated the bar until they died in 2010. Their son ran it briefly, and the bar closed in 2011.
- In 2012, brothers Kent Johns and Lance Johns, together with Derek Stoneberger, bought Atomic Liquors.
In popular culture:
- Atomic Liquors is often called Las Vegas’s oldest freestanding bar, though some reports misstate the opening year as 1952.
- It has appeared in films such as The Hangover, Casino, and The Twilight Zone, and Anthony Bourdain filmed a segment there in 2013.
- The bar also inspired the Atomic Wrangler in the video game Fallout: New Vegas.
