Battle of Loncomilla
Battle of Loncomilla
The Battle of Loncomilla was fought on 8 December 1851 in Loncomilla, Chile. It was the decisive battle of the 1851 Chilean Revolution between the conservative government and liberal rebels. The government won, effectively ending the revolt.
The rebel army was led by José María de la Cruz and was aided by Mapuche chief Mañil and his warriors. After the defeat, Mañil returned south.
Historian José Bengoa notes that the Mapuche viewed the government in Santiago as their main enemy, which helps explain their support for the Concepción-based revolt.
