Rhinogobius giurinus
Rhinogobius giurinus is a small goby fish from eastern Asia. It grows up to about 8 cm long and lives in rivers, reservoirs, ponds and estuaries in fresh, brackish, and even some marine waters. It migrates between habitats but can reproduce in a completely closed drainage system. The species is widespread and common, listed as Least Concern by the IUCN. Its native range includes parts of China (Yellow River, Yangtze River, Qiantang River, Pearl River, plus areas like Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan), Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan (from Tone River to Iriomote, including the Bonin and Ryukyu Islands), as well as northern Vietnam. It has been introduced to Singapore, the Tibetan Plateau, and Yunnan. The diet includes aquatic insects, other invertebrates, small fish, zooplankton, phytoplankton and plant detritus. It is also used as a food fish by local people.
