Rashid Shafi Al-Dosari
Rashid Shafi Al-Dosari (born 8 May 1981) is a Qatari discus thrower who competed for Qatar at major international events. He appeared at the Summer Olympics twice, debuting in 2000 and reaching the final in 2008, finishing 10th with 62.55 meters. He was a finalist at the 2007 World Championships and earned medals in Asian and regional competitions. His personal best of 64.43 meters was a former Qatari record.
Al-Dosari showed promise early, winning two Asian Junior titles. In 2002 he won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships with 64.43 m, a national and championships record, and he finished fourth at the 2002 Asian Games. He began competing internationally as a teenager, winning his first discus title at 15 in 1996 and taking Pan Arab Junior Championships glory in 1998, followed by gold at the Pan Arab Championships and the 1999 Pan Arab Games.
His career faced a setback in 2003 when he refused to take an out-of-competition doping test and received a two-year ban. He returned in 2005, winning silver at the West Asian Games. In 2006 he threw 63.49 m to win at the Gulf Military Championships and 62.11 m for silver at the Asian Games behind Ehsan Haddadi. In 2007 he won bronze at the Pan Arab Championships and silver at the Asian Athletics Championships with 63.49 m, and he finished 11th at the World Championships. He also won bronze at the 2007 Military World Games.
In early 2008 he threw 64.25 m at the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix, earning an Olympic qualifying mark. At the Beijing Olympics he reached the final and finished 10th. He did not compete in 2009, but in 2010 he finished fifth at the Asian Games, while teammate Ahmed Dheeb broke Al-Dosari’s national record to win silver.
