Rajbiraj Airport
Rajbiraj Airport (IATA: RJB, ICAO: VNRB) is a small domestic airport in Rajbiraj, Saptari District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. It is publicly owned by the Government of Nepal and operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. The airport sits about 76 meters (250 feet) above sea level and has one asphalt runway, 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) long, oriented 11/29.
History: The airport opened in 1959 but was closed due to inadequate facilities and a paved runway. Flights stopped in 2007. In 2015–16, the government funded upgrades worth about 303 million NPR. The upgrade contract was awarded in October 2016, with a planned finish by November 2017, later extended by five months. The renovated airport reopened on 23 May 2018 with the first flight by Shree Airlines, and regular services began on 25 June 2018. Since then, the airport has been operating successfully.
The airport serves local residents and tourists visiting Koshi Barrage and Koshi Tu u Wildlife Reserve, and it also acts as a transit hub to nearby towns in India. Nearby, the S K Airport Hotel is a popular place to stay and eat.
