John Donelson Martin (August 18, 1830 – October 3, 1862) was an officer in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee, and served in the Mexican–American War as a private in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry (1846–1848).

When the Civil War began, he joined the Confederate Army as Captain of the Hickory Rifles from Memphis, which became Company E of the 154th Senior Tennessee Infantry, and he rose to Major of the regiment in May 1861. That summer he raised a regiment with seven Mississippi companies and three from Tennessee, was promoted to Colonel, and commanded the 25th Mississippi Infantry (also called the 1st Mississippi Valley Regiment), which in January 1862 became the 2nd Confederate Infantry. He fought at Shiloh and took brigade command when Brig. Gen. John S. Bowen was wounded. He was recommended for brigadier general and served as acting brigadier general, commanding a brigade in the Army of the West made up of the 36th, 37th and 38th Mississippi regiments and the 37th Alabama.

Martin was killed at the Second Battle of Corinth on October 3, 1862. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee, leaving behind his wife, Rosalie A. White, and a son.
