Century (French band)
Century were a French rock band from Marseille, formed in 1979. Their music mixed pop rock, soft rock, hard rock and progressive rock. The original lineup included Jean-Louis Milford (vocals and keyboards), Éric Traissard (guitar), Laurent Cokelaere (bass), Christian Portes (drums) and Jean-Dominique Sallaberry (second guitarist), with early lyrics by Paul Ives.
They are best known for the 1986 hit "Lover Why" from the album …And Soul It Goes. The song topped the French charts for seven weeks and was a hit in Portugal and Switzerland. It also appeared on Brazilian TV soundtracks for the soap Ti Ti Ti. Their second single, "Jane," reached No. 35 in France.
The band split in 1989. Milford later teamed up with lyricist Francis Nugent Dixon, and they released a double CD in 2006 called Timeless. After about two years of work with Walter Clissen in Los Angeles, they moved into the American market with the musical comedy Seven Stars in Paradise (2012–2013).
