Ben Springer (Benedictus Springer) was born in Amsterdam on June 19, 1897, and died in Paris on August 29, 1960. He was a Dutch draughts player who earned the national Grand Master title and became world champion in 1928 in Amsterdam, finishing ahead of Alfred Molimard. The Coup Springer, a standard draughts combination, is named after him. He played in the Dutch championships in 1919 and 1920, finishing 4th and 3rd with positive scores. He held the world title until 1931, when he did not participate in the world championship tournament, and Marius Fabre became champion.
