Survivor R
The Survivor R is a 15-tonne, armored-wheeled vehicle built by Germany’s Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) in partnership with Austria’s Achleitner. It was first shown in 2014 and has since been sold to at least two customers, including the Free State of Saxony in 2017 and the Berlin Police in 2018. It’s designed to be a flexible platform for police, military and civilian roles, with several configurations such as ambulance, command and control, and CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) surveillance.
What it is
- Base: Militarised MAN TGM 18-tonne truck chassis, using mostly off-the-shelf components
- Armor: Steel monocoque cabin with undisclosed protective levels
- Weight and size: 15-tonne gross vehicle weight; length 6.5 m, width 2.5 m, height 2.7 m
- Crew and capacity: 2 crew in front + up to 10 in the rear
- Air transport: Can be moved by a C-130 Hercules
Power and drive
- Engine: MAN 6.9-litre, 6-cylinder diesel. EURO 3 (or EURO 6 option) with about 330 hp (Euro 3) or 340 hp (Euro 6) and 1,250 Nm of torque
- Transmission: MAN 12 AS 1210 Tipmatic 12-speed automated gearbox
- Transfer: MAN G 103 2-speed transfer case
- Axles: Front 7.1-tonne, rear 11.5-tonne
- Suspension: Parabolic leaf springs with shocks and anti-roll bar
- Tires: 365/85 R20 Michelin XZL with run-flat inserts

- Payload: Up to 4.1 tonnes of equipment or cargo
- Mobility: High interior space for equipment and complex systems integration

CBRN variant (countering chemical, biological, radiological threats)
- Equipped with automated detectors for radiation and chemical agents
- Remote sensors to detect distant chemical clouds
- On-the-move detection, sampling from soil and water, and real-time data transmission to command
- Demonstrated with equipment such as OWR sampling, Bruker mass spectrometer, and NBC Inspector
