1961 Milan–San Remo
1961 Milan–San Remo took place on 18 March 1961. It was the 52nd edition of the famous one‑day race, covering 288 kilometers from Milan to San Remo. Raymond Poulidor of France won in 7 hours, 41 minutes, and 7 seconds. Rik Van Looy of Belgium finished second, and Rino Benedetti of Italy finished third. Poulidor had to deal with a puncture early in the race, but his director Antonin Magne urged him to keep going, and he recovered to win as the peloton arrived just three seconds later, with Van Looy taking the sprint for second.
