Québec d'abord
Québec d’abord is a municipal political party in Quebec City. It began as Équipe Labeaume, founded by Régis Labeaume and registered with Elections Québec on June 5, 2008. Labeaume became mayor in 2007 and built alliances on the city council that became a formal party in 2008. In the 2009 municipal election, Équipe Labeaume won 25 of 27 seats, the only party on the council. In 2013 and 2017, other parties reduced its share. By 2021, the party held 14 of 21 seats on the council.
Before the 2021 election, Labeaume announced his retirement and endorsed Marie-Josée Savard on May 12, 2021. On May 20, 2021, Elections Québec registered the party’s name change to Équipe Marie-Josée Savard. After the election, the party won the most seats (10 of 21) but Savard was not elected mayor. Claude Villeneuve, a former adviser to Premier Pauline Marois, was chosen to succeed Savard on November 10, 2021. The party then changed its name to Québec d’abord on February 21, 2022.
The move from government to opposition weakened the party, and over the next months three councillors left—Steeve Verret, then David Weiser and Claude Lavoie—reducing its strength. This shift gave the majority on the city council to other groups, Québec forte et fière and Québec 21.
