Ken Rozenboom
Ken Rozenboom is a Republican Iowa state senator representing the 19th District (formerly the 40th district before redistricting). He has served in the Iowa Senate since 2013. On January 13, 2025, he was elected president pro tempore of the Iowa Senate.
Born September 5, 1951, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Rozenboom is the son of Jacob and Clarissa Rozenboom. He grew up in Oskaloosa with five siblings; his brother Calvin died in 2024. His Dutch ancestry dates back to grandparents who immigrated to the U.S. in 1910. He attended Pella Christian High School and Calvin University, then worked on the family farm and as a sales production manager. He also served as Mahaska County Supervisor from 2010 to 2012.
Rozenboom is married to Becky Goemaat. They have two children and four grandchildren and live in Oskaloosa.
His Senate work has included service on the Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture, Education, Appropriations, Veterans Affairs, State Government, and Rules and Administration committees. He has held leadership roles such as Chair of the Natural Resources and Environment Committee (2019–2022), Chair of the Education Committee (2023–2024), Vice Chair of the Agriculture Committee, and Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. In 2025 he serves on several committees and chairs the State Government Committee, while also serving as a member or vice chair on others, including Natural Resources and Environment, Rules and Administration, Transportation, Agriculture, and Ethics.
In 2019 he received the Herbert Hoover Award for community service. After initially announcing in 2021 that he would not seek re-election due to redistricting, he reversed course in 2022 and won the election for the 19th District by more than 30%.
