Barron Hilton Cup (BHC) was a global gliding contest started by Barron Hilton, longtime head of Hilton Hotels, and Prof. Dr. Helmut Reichmann. EADS partnered with the event. It ran from 1980 to 2009. The winners of each two-year period were invited to a weeklong soaring camp at Barron Hilton's Flying-M Ranch in Nevada, USA. From 1986, the competition was recognized by the International Gliding Commission as a first-category event of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. The goal was to promote long-distance gliding and improve gliding links between participating nations. The competition area was divided into five geographic regions.
