Pyotr Stepanovich Deynekin (14 December 1937 – 19 August 2017) was a Russian and Soviet military officer. He was the last Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet Air Force (1991–1992) and the first commander of the Russian Air Force (1992–1998). Born in Morozovsk in the Russian SFSR, he graduated from the Gagarin Air Force Academy in 1969. In 1991–1992 he also served as deputy defense minister of the USSR, and in 1992 he led the Air Force of the CIS. He retired in 2002. Deynekin was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation in 1997. He died in Moscow in 2017 at the age of 79.
