Alide Maria Salvetta
Alide Maria Salvetta (1941–1991) was an Italian operatic soprano who sang worldwide in concerts and operas from the 1960s until her death. Born in Sarche, Trento, she trained at the Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi in Bolzano, where she later taught singing. She began performing professionally in the mid-1960s and appeared at many major festivals.
Her opera work included performances at La Fenice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Opéra National de Lyon, the Paris Opera, and Italian and regional theatres such as Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro di San Carlo, and Teatro Regio di Torino. She created the role of Cantatrice/Juliana in the world premiere of Salvatore Sciarrino's Aspern at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence in 1978.
Salvetta was especially known as a concert soprano and recitalist, often performing with pianist Antonio Ballista. She championed new music, premiering works by Berio, Castaldi, Castiglioni, De Pablo, Donatoni, Galante, Lucchetti, Manzoni, Morricone, Novák, Pedini, Sciarrino, and Stuppner. She sang with orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, and the Spanish National Orchestra. She died in Trento in 1991 at age 49.
