Putri Tangguk is a character from Jambi folklore. She is a mother of seven who lives with her farmer husband. They work hard to care for their children, but she feels she has little time for them because of all the farming. She tells her husband she will fill their warehouse with rice and supplies so they won’t have to work as long. They do this. One rainy day, after the rain stops, Putri and her family walk to the rice field. She slips on the wet ground and curses the road in anger. On the way back, she plants a rice paddy on that road to stop it from slipping. She soon regrets this, realizing the rice paddies are important. The lesson is to be thankful for what you have.
