Otocinclus huaorani is a small, armored catfish from South America. It grows to about 3.2 cm long and lives on the bottom in rivers and streams in the Amazon and Orinoco basins—found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It’s known from areas including the Napo River basin in Ecuador and Loreto in Peru, and its first described specimen came from a tributary of the San Miguel River in Napo, Ecuador. It prefers lime-rich waters and oxbow lakes and is usually found at elevations of 100–400 meters. This species is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN because it has a wide range, though local threats include water pollution from urban waste and agricultural runoff.
