Tarzetta catinus

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Tarzetta catinus is a cream-colored cup fungus in the Pyronemataceae family. It is mainly found in Europe, with a few records from Mexico and the United States. It grows from spring to autumn as cups up to 5 cm wide, usually in small groups among broad-leaved trees, especially beech. It is similar to Tarzetta cupularis, but the two can only be reliably told apart under a microscope: Tarzetta catinus has broader spores and lobed tips on the paraphyses. Tarzetta catinus is not edible.
