Purdue State Bank Building is a small historic bank in West Lafayette, Indiana. It was designed by Louis Sullivan, a famous architect and mentor to Frank Lloyd Wright. Completed in 1914, the building is the smallest and least expensive of Sullivan’s Jewel Box banks, created in a modern style toward the end of his career. It sits on a tiny trapezoidal lot between two streets and has only modest decorations, with just a few terra cotta panels. The construction cost was $14,600, and Sullivan received about 10% of that as his fee. In the 1950s, a stone addition was added to the back, the original doorway was turned into a window, and later an ATM was installed. Located about one block from Purdue University, the building now houses a Chase bank branch.
